HELLO We're WIZZES OF OZchi WORLD|“And will you succeed? Yes you will indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)” - Dr Seuss|“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Mini Challenge 2

The wizards identified the need of companionship of their loved ones faced by the aging parents from the age of 65. This need is supported by a research done on seniors (65 and above) living alone in Singapore, “Family is the main pillar of support in times of need among seniors” [1]. In the world today, too much time is being invested in establishing and maintaining careers and personal activities, such that working adults hardly have time to visit their aging parents. The existing solutions to bridge the connection between hectic schedules of working children and their aging parents include Skype and, the conscious effort on both parties on making time for a meet up [2]. The first challenge of using Skype is that it requires both parties to be available for interaction and for both to be familiar with the use of such applications. However, the hectic schedules of the working children greatly limit the effectiveness of using Skype. Additionally, some elderly finds it difficult to learn the use of such technology. Hence, Skype has limited effectiveness in addressing the need identified. Next, as much as companionship can be provided by non-related care givers, nothing beats having the companionship of loved ones. Thus, the existing solution of care givers does not fully address the need. In summary, the wizards concluded that this need challenges the existing stereotype of elderly merely wants companionship from anyone. This is because not only does companionship matter, the companionship of loved ones matters most to the elderly.
